Welcome 10th intake!

A new student intake started the Cartography Master programme. Of course, we imagined something completely different to celebrate and welcome our anniversary intake, but we are glad that we could organize a special welcoming week despite all circumstances. This year we are proud and happy to welcome 29 students from 20 different countries! We never had so many different nationalities represented in one student intake.

The Welcoming week 2020 was taking place in the last week of October as the semester in Germany was postponed due to the pandemic. The postponement increased the chances that students could obtain their visa on time and could travel to Germany. 27 out of 29 students made it and arrived in Germany for the 1st semester. Two students studying entirely online until the situation allows their travels.

The week was organized in a hybrid format, means a combination of on-line and on-site events. All on-line events included interactive parts, lunch and learn activities and virtual onboarding offices. Students designed individual video conference backgrounds to introduce themselves, mentimeter was used to get-to-know each other better and our expectations map was filled during the on-site campus tour.

Sweet detail from the expectations map 🙂

The students participated in a virtual library tour. All partners introduced their universities, their role within the programme and the highlights of every semester. Four keynotes were given on the cutting-edge topics such as “The relevance of modern cartography” or “Maps, and challenges of mapping SDG indicators data”. A two-days intercultural training workshop was organized, where students discussed about their personal expectations and motivation. Our lovely 9th intake produced a video to welcome the new peers.

We wish all students a great and successful time in Munich, Vienna, Dresden and Enschede! We are looking forward meeting you soon in person and shoot a real “live” group photo.
