Cartography M.Sc. alumni involved in tactile atlas project

Our Cartography M.Sc. alumni Anna Vetter led the team who created the new “Tactile Atlas of Switzerland”. Anna works in Zürich for the mapping software company Esri. The new atlas is printed with special ink that expands when heated to create tiny bumps and ridges on the page.

The new atlas includes 58 maps on 116 pages. Overview maps showing cantons, borders, mountains, waterbodies and the railway network. “It was quite challenging for me because you really have to think in a different way”, Anna said.

The new atlas enjoyed wide media coverage. Even the online version of National Geographic reported about this innovative project.

Congratulations, Anna – we are very proud of you!
