Orienteering Events in Vienna

Orienteering combines map reading with navigation and running, which makes it a perfect sport for aspiring cartographers. Last week, two orienteering events were organized in Vienna: the Austrian Academic Championship on Wednesday, June 7, and a student orienteering event organized by the Research Group Cartography on Friday, June 9.

The Wednesday event was part of the Austrian academic championship in orienteering, but courses for all levels of experience were offered. It took place in Vienna’s “Prater” area. Five Cartography M.Sc. students participated in the run, while some of their colleagues joined for watching and cheering.

The orienteering event on Friday was hosted by the Research Group Cartography around the TU main building at Karlsplatz to introduce students to the sport. In total, 104 national and international students from cartography, geodesy, and urban plannung joint the event along a 2.1 km course.

A big thanks to the organizing team and to all the students for making the events so enjoyable and fun!
