Indy Wien Map Guide

Vienna is a city internationally famous for its high culture; its balls, its theatre, its opera, its classical music and its baroque architecture. Yet beneath this bourgeois facade lies an incredibly strong, youthful and creative undercurrent. From hidden gigs under railway arches, to pop-up galleries and late nights in basement bars, there’s a lot of fun to be had beneath the wealthy facade of the city. Likewise, behind every high street dominated by the same old chain stores, lies a maze of side streets hiding intimate cafés and independent retailers. The problem, naturally, is sorting the wheat from the chaff – how do you find the good stuff hidden beneath the surface? That’s where this guide comes in…

What follows is a hand-picked choice of some of the best shops, cafés, bars, galleries, music venues and other good stuff in Vienna’s fifth, sixth and seventh districts. Of course, the selection we present is entirely subjective and limited, whilst Vienna is a city that’s constantly evolving. That’s why we’ve filled the guide with lots of white space. This guide will work best if you make it your own: add in new locations, write all over it, draw all over it, and create your own personally curated map of Vienna…
