Wien 360°/ Vienna 360°

After learning that no map is completely accurate, Juliette wanted to build a map that utilized map distortions for the user’s benefit. The Vienna 360° was a map conceptualized, projected, designed, and built by Juliette Bricker. Hung in a circle, this structure displayed a map that depicted a panoramic-like visual that shows what’s in every direction from where the user is standing. The outside contained additional information about the city and seating to increase usefulness and accessibility for those passing by. This was the first built prototype of this projection concept. Hopefully, this prototype will pave the way for evolved applications in the future.

Nothing great is never done alone. A special thanks goes to the conference and organizers of EuroCarto 2024, who helped make this prototype possible. I’d also like to thank my family and friends who supported me, gave their input, and helped me with assembling/building the structure.

The first version of the map was created as part of the course Project Map Creation at TU Wien in summer semester 2024. The prototype was built and developed for EuroCarto 2024 in September 2024.
